Poland Eyes Western Regions for a Permanent US Base

Poland is considering Wielkopolska and Lower Silesia for a permanent US military base as Warsaw prepares to restore the American troop presence to about 10,000.

Poland is considering the western part of the country as the main location for a permanent US military base. Deputy National Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk identified Wielkopolska and Lower Silesia as the two most likely options.

Warsaw formally submitted its proposal to Washington in early June. However, Polish officials have yet to make a final decision on the site and are not ruling out the possibility that another location could be considered later.

Tomczyk told RMF FM that western Poland was chosen with the potential expansion of NATO forces in mind. For years, the country has been developing logistics infrastructure around airports in the region to ensure that additional military support from the alliance can be received when required.

The deputy minister also said that US troops would arrive in Poland within the next eight weeks. Their deployment is expected to bring the total number of American personnel in the country back to around 10,000.

The incoming troops will belong to new units and will not be part of the current rotation.

The future presence of US forces in Poland was also discussed during a meeting between Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz and Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth.
