Trump Says US Preparing Major Strikes Against Iran

Donald Trump says US forces are preparing major strikes against Iran as Washington moves to control the Strait of Hormuz and charge for maritime security.

US President Donald Trump said on Fox News that American forces were preparing to launch major strikes against Iran.

According to Trump, Washington had reached an agreement with Tehran, but the Iranian side later violated it. He said the United States had negotiated multiple deals with Iran and would now respond with force.

The US president also stated that Washington intended to establish control over the Strait of Hormuz. At the same time, the White House does not plan to protect shipping through the route free of charge and expects to collect payment for providing security.

Trump said a meeting on the situation surrounding Iran took place on July 12. The sides reached certain understandings, but Tehran later requested changes. After that, Washington decided to move toward tougher action.

He also argued that Iran should compensate for the damage caused.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said Tehran would not allow the Strait of Hormuz to become a threat to the country’s national security. He also described US statements about providing military escorts for ships as evidence that Washington wanted to preserve instability in the region.
