Rheinmetall Ships New 155mm Artillery Shells to Ukraine

Rheinmetall has sent Ukraine its first batch of 155mm artillery shells made at the new Unterluess plant, with remaining deliveries due by late 2026.

German defense giant Rheinmetall has delivered its first batch of artillery ammunition to Ukraine from the company’s new production facility in Unterluess. The plant began operations in August 2025. Before its launch, the group supplied shells manufactured at its other sites.

The initial shipment contained a five-digit number of artillery rounds. It was accompanied by propellant charges produced at other Rheinmetall facilities. According to the company, Ukraine has already received more than half of the ammunition covered by the order, with the remaining supplies scheduled for delivery by the end of 2026.

The shipment largely consisted of RH1412 shells, which Rheinmetall describes as the latest addition to its artillery ammunition range. The rounds are designed for use with various 155mm artillery systems.

Rheinmetall is one of Europe’s largest manufacturers of weapons and military equipment. The company’s revenue has risen amid deliveries of German arms to Ukraine, including tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers, air defense systems and artillery ammunition.

At the end of 2023, the Financial Times listed Rheinmetall among the companies that had benefited most from growing global instability.
