Russian Navy Ranks Third Among World’s Strongest Fleets
The Russian Navy ranks third worldwide after China and the United States, with submarines and combat readiness underpinning its strength, TNI reports.
The Russian Navy has been ranked among the world’s three strongest naval forces, taking third place behind China and the United States, according to an assessment by the American magazine The National Interest.
The ranking was compiled using a «true value» methodology. Rather than focusing only on the number of vessels, the system also considers modernization levels, logistical capabilities and overall combat effectiveness.
The magazine said Russia remains one of the world’s leading naval powers largely because of its advanced submarine forces. The country must also maintain a naval presence across four strategic areas at the same time.
According to TNI, the Russian Navy operates 283 combat vessels. Strategic and multipurpose submarines form the core of its combat potential.
Earlier reports said the Russian Defense Ministry plans to modernize the country’s naval strategic nuclear and non-nuclear forces. The project has already been discussed at a meeting of the Russian Maritime Board’s Council for the Strategic Development of the Navy.
