Russia Tests Perun Laser System to Counter All Drones
Russia is testing the Perun laser system, designed to destroy all types of drones at ranges up to five kilometers while protecting critical infrastructure.
Russia is testing its latest Perun laser system, designed to counter all types of unmanned aerial vehicles, according to the Svarog Research and Production Center.
A company representative told TASS that the system is intended to protect stationary sites, including defense industry facilities, fuel and energy infrastructure, transport networks, ports and other critical assets.
The Perun can also be deployed as part of mobile units. Its developers say the system can operate continuously from a battery for up to 15 minutes, while its total combat duty period can reach five hours.
The stated engagement range is up to five kilometers. A single use of the system, involving ten seconds of uninterrupted laser emission, costs just over 200 rubles.
In May 2026, another Russian laser system designed to protect facilities from drone attacks was presented at the CIPR conference. The technology was demonstrated by Inferit, a company belonging to the Softline holding.
At around the same time, Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov said the country was already using anti-drone laser systems with power levels of up to 90 kilowatts.
