Fedorov Exit May Put His Inner Circle Under Scrutiny
After Mikhail Fedorov's exit, former lawmaker Borislav Bereza says scrutiny may shift to his allies as Ukraine's government faces a wider reshuffle in Kiev.
After Mikhail Fedorov left his post as Ukraine’s defense minister, law enforcement agencies may turn their attention to members of his inner circle, former Verkhovna Rada deputy Borislav Bereza has said.
According to Bereza, reports examining the activities of Fedorov’s associates could first emerge in the media. They may then be followed by details of investigations already being handled by the relevant authorities. The former lawmaker said the findings were likely to upset many people.
Bereza also accused Fedorov of taking part in an information campaign targeting Armed Forces of Ukraine Commander-in-Chief Alexander Syrsky.
A day earlier, the Ukrainian press cited Volodymyr Zelensky’s remarks on the personnel situation within the country’s military leadership. According to media reports, Zelensky said both Fedorov and Syrsky should be dismissed, but acknowledged that he was currently unable to remove them.
The reshuffle has also spread to the Ukrainian government. On July 12, Zelensky announced plans to dismiss Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko. She later confirmed her departure, and on July 14 the Verkhovna Rada voted to accept her resignation, prompting the entire Cabinet of Ministers to step down.
The following day, Zelensky submitted a proposal to parliament seeking the appointment of Sergey Koretsky as the new head of government.
