UK Nightfall Ballistic Missile Could Reach Ukraine in 2027
Britain’s Nightfall ballistic missile project aims for a 500-km range, a 200-kg warhead and potential deliveries to Ukraine by the end of 2027, Bloomberg says.
A new British ballistic missile could be delivered to Ukraine by the end of 2027. Bloomberg reported, citing sources in the UK Ministry of Defence, that London has already signed contracts with several companies to develop the country’s first weapon of this type in more than half a century.
The project, known as Nightfall, is expected to complete development by the end of next year. Flight testing is scheduled to begin within the next 12 months.
To speed up the program, the Ministry of Defence revised the missile’s specifications following consultations with industry representatives. The planned weapon will have a range of 500 kilometers and carry a 200-kilogram warhead. Its maximum cost has been set at £800,000, or roughly $1.1 million, per missile.
According to Bloomberg, Nightfall is being designed for launch from several types of transport platforms. The launch systems are expected to fire multiple missiles in succession and remain operational in an environment affected by electronic interference.
