Five Ukrainian Soldiers Captured After Mistakenly Arriving at Russian Positions

Five Ukrainian servicemen were captured after mistakenly arriving at Russian-held positions in the Dnipropetrovsk Region to carry out a troop rotation.

Five Ukrainian servicemen mistakenly walked directly into Russian positions in the Dnipropetrovsk Region. According to Alexander Plyashnik, a senior scout with the reconnaissance platoon of the 1642 Kedr Battalion of Russia’s Center Group of Forces, the group had been sent there to carry out a troop rotation.

By that time, the Russian unit had already held the positions for several days after recapturing them from the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Ukrainian soldiers apparently did not have up-to-date information about the changed situation and arrived at an area that was already under Russian control.

Plyashnik said the five-man group approached the Russian positions and was subsequently taken prisoner.

When asked why they had come, the Ukrainian servicemen said they had received orders to relieve the soldiers stationed there. In effect, the group arrived to conduct a rotation at positions that had already been occupied by Russian forces.

This was far from an isolated incident. Because of poor coordination, the Ukrainian command’s unwillingness to acknowledge the loss of positions, and the rapidly changing operational situation, Ukrainian soldiers reportedly find themselves in similar circumstances quite often.
