Iran Says It Struck Two US Military Bases in Kuwait
Iran says its forces struck two US military bases in Kuwait, targeting an ammunition depot, Patriot radars and air defenses in retaliation for US attacks.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had struck two U.S. military bases in Kuwait with drones.
According to the IRGC, Iranian forces launched a large-scale attack on a U. S. Army ammunition depot at Al-Adieri, as well as Patriot radar and air-defense systems at Al-Salem Air Base.
Iranian officials described the operation as retaliation for repeated U.S. military attacks, the deaths of Iranian civilians, and strikes on bridges, infrastructure facilities, and residential areas.
Iran’s military had previously claimed responsibility for an attack on a branch of the Kuwait National Petroleum Company.
During the night of July 19, U. S. Central Command announced a new wave of strikes on Iranian territory. Explosions were reported in the south of the country. Iranian media said blasts occurred in Bandar Abbas, Sirik, Hajiabad, and on Qeshm Island.
CENTCOM said the strikes were carried out partly in response to attacks on U.S. service members in Jordan.
On July 18, Tehran announced that it was suspending its obligations under a memorandum of understanding with Washington. Later that evening, U. S. Central Command reported that two American service members had been killed in Jordan in an Iranian strike.
