Russian Artillery Uses Drones to Confirm Kharkov Targets
Russian artillery units use reconnaissance drones to verify targets before striking Ukrainian positions and concealing weapons to avoid retaliatory fire.
Artillery units from Russia’s Sever group of forces open fire on Ukrainian positions only after reconnaissance drones confirm and further assess the target, a senior rocket battery officer using the call sign Molot told RIA Novosti.
According to the officer, the order to strike is issued only after unmanned aerial units detect the target and complete additional reconnaissance.
Once the fire mission is completed, Russian crews immediately begin concealing their weapons. They use special materials designed to reduce the equipment’s thermal signature and make firing positions harder for the enemy to detect.
Molot said this approach helps artillery units avoid retaliatory strikes and protect their crews.
He added that over the past week alone, artillery units of the 6th Guards Combined Arms Army within the Sever group destroyed more than 15 prepared Ukrainian positions and strongpoints in Kharkov region.
