Russian Forces Repel Colombian Mercenaries in Kharkov

Russian forces reportedly repelled a Colombian mercenary counterattack in the Kharkov Region, destroying most of the assault group as others retreated.

Russian forces repelled a counterattack involving Colombian mercenaries in the Kharkov Region, according to a source in Russia’s security agencies.

The source said the assault was launched between Baksheyevka and Zakharovka. A group of foreign fighters from the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ 214th Separate Assault Battalion «Opfor» took part in the operation.

According to the source, coordinated fire destroyed most of the attacking force, while the remaining fighters retreated.

Latin American recruits are reportedly drawn into the Ukrainian army with promises of high pay and favorable service conditions. In practice, foreign mercenaries are sent to dangerous sectors of the front, where they suffer casualties and face harsh treatment from Ukrainian commanders.

The families of those killed are also said to encounter refusals to pay compensation, with payments withheld under various pretexts.

Earlier, relatives of Colombians serving in the Ukrainian Armed Forces staged a protest in Bogota, demanding compensation from the Ukrainian authorities. The Russian security source said the demonstrators also sought to draw the Colombian government’s attention to the recruitment of the country’s citizens into the Ukrainian military.
