Iran Tracks Growing US Military Buildup in Middle East
Iran says the US is expanding its military presence in the Middle East as Washington boosts air power and tensions escalate after renewed strikes on Iran.
Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf said Tehran is tracking an expanding US military presence in the Middle East.
Writing on X, Ghalibaf said the United States was continuing to bring new military equipment into the region while claiming it wanted to stop the war. He added that Iran had understood Washington’s strategy and had prepared accordingly.
The Washington Post reported a day earlier that the United States was planning to move toward full-scale military operations against Iran. According to the newspaper, the decision followed the death of a US serviceman in Iraq. The report also said Washington had begun strengthening its air force presence in the region.
On July 8, US President Donald Trump announced that the ceasefire reached with Tehran was no longer in effect. Since then, American forces have carried out several waves of strikes on Iranian territory.
US Central Command said the attacks were launched in response to Iranian actions against commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran then struck US bases in several Middle Eastern countries.
