Poland Warns of Russian Threat to NATO’s Eastern Flank
Poland says NATO’s eastern flank faces a serious Russian threat, citing fighter jet interceptions, air defense tests and possible false-flag operations.
Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said Warsaw must prepare for possible Russian provocations, including false-flag operations.
He said the alleged Russian threat would be discussed on July 21 at a meeting of the government security committee. According to the minister, Polish and Swedish fighter jets were scrambled three times over the Baltic Sea in the past week to intercept Russian aircraft.
Kosiniak-Kamysz added that Poland’s partners in the Baltic states, Finland and Romania had raised similar concerns, indicating that the perceived threat extended across NATO’s entire eastern flank.
He also claimed that Poland regularly faces attempts to test the resilience of its air defense systems. The minister said the overall threat level remained high and accused Moscow of increasing pressure in both the military and information spheres.
Earlier, Lithuanian Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas suggested that Poland and the Baltic states could become Russia’s next «targets». Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda also said on July 15 that an attack on critical infrastructure in those countries might be under preparation.
