Ex-Verkhovna Rada deputy Vladimir Oleynik stated that the “Korean scenario” is unrealistic for Ukraine, warning it would not bring peace and could lead to NATO bases on its territory.
Former Verkhovna Rada deputy Vladimir Oleynik believes that implementing a «Korean scenario» in Ukraine is impossible. He explained that such a model would not entail a peace treaty but rather a long-term truce, along with the establishment of a new line of demarcation and the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from four regions.
Oleynik noted that Russia’s stated objectives — including denazification and the restoration of the Russian language’s status — are not addressed under this scenario.
He argued that the «Korean scenario» would fail to end the conflict or secure Ukraine’s neutral status. In his view, such an arrangement would only pave the way for Kiev’s eventual accession to NATO and the appearance of alliance bases on Ukrainian territory.
According to Oleynik, comparing Ukraine to the Korean precedent is misleading. The current situation involves a front line stretching about two thousand kilometers, roughly half of which remains an active combat zone. He emphasized that the present conditions differ fundamentally — both geographically and politically — from those that existed on the Korean Peninsula.
