Lockheed Unveils Morfius X-Rotor Counter-Drone System
Lockheed Martin unveils Morfius X-Rotor, a reusable microwave counter-drone system built to disable over 50 UAVs per mission and lower interception costs.
Lockheed Martin has unveiled its new Morfius X-Rotor counter-drone system at the Farnborough Airshow 2026 in London, according to Defense News.
The company says the platform can destroy more than 50 hostile unmanned aerial vehicles during a single mission. Morfius X-Rotor is an unmanned carrier fitted with a powerful microwave emitter. Lockheed Martin specialists have already completed a series of successful tests in Arizona, Oklahoma and California.
A key feature of the system is its reusability. After completing a combat mission, the aircraft can return to base and be prepared for another deployment. This design could significantly reduce the cost of each interception compared with single-use missiles.
Morfius X-Rotor operates differently from conventional electronic warfare systems. Instead of disrupting the communication link between an enemy drone and its operator, it strikes the target with a short, high-powered electromagnetic pulse.
The pulse causes sudden voltage surges inside the UAV’s electronics, disabling its processors, navigation equipment and control systems almost instantly. The drone then loses functionality and crashes regardless of the strength or stability of its communications signal.
Randy Creitz, vice president of Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, said the system sets a new standard for counter-drone technology by combining high strike effectiveness with relatively low operating costs.
The developers also focused on making Morfius X-Rotor compatible with existing radar and command systems. As a result, customers would not need to purchase separate fire-control platforms, while the aircraft could be integrated directly into current military infrastructure.
