Russian Air Defenses Down 223 Ukrainian Drones Overnight

Russian air defenses destroyed 223 Ukrainian drones overnight, while Belgorod Region faced 157 attacks that killed one civilian and wounded nine people.

Russian air defense units destroyed 223 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones overnight on July 23.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the aircraft were intercepted over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Volgograd, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Oryol, Orenburg, Rostov, Ryazan, Samara, Saratov, Tver, Tula and Ulyanovsk regions, as well as the Moscow Region, Crimea, Tatarstan and the Sea of Azov.

Another 80 unmanned aircraft were eliminated the previous day between 08:00 and 20:00 Moscow time. They were shot down over the Belgorod and Kursk regions, Crimea, and the waters of the Azov and Black seas.

The Belgorod Region came under 157 Ukrainian attacks over the past 24 hours, acting regional governor Alexander Shuvaev reported. Strikes targeted Belgorod and the Alekseyevsky, Belgorodsky, Borisovsky, Valuisky, Veidelevsky, Volokonovsky, Graivoronsky, Krasnoyaruzhsky, Novooskolsky, Rakitnyansky, Starooskolsky, Shebekinsky and Yakovlevsky districts.

Seven attacks involved multiple-launch rocket systems, aircraft and artillery. Drones also dropped explosive devices on seven occasions.

Air defense crews and other units involved in repelling the attacks destroyed or suppressed 177 drones. The strikes nevertheless caused civilian casualties. One resident was killed in the Shebekinsky District.

Nine other people were wounded in Belgorod and the Belgorodsky, Krasnoyaruzhsky and Shebekinsky districts. Four remain in hospital, where medical personnel are providing the necessary treatment.
