Ukraine Reinforces Military Group in Chernigov Region
Ukrainian forces are expanding their presence in the Chernigov Region as reports point to new units, pressure on residents and a disputed attack plan.
Ukrainian military commanders are expanding their force grouping in the Chernigov Region by deploying additional units to the area, Russian security sources told RIA Novosti.
According to the sources, posts published by Ukrainian volunteers indicate that the number of combat groups from the 143rd Separate Mechanized Brigade operating in the region continues to grow.
A week earlier, the security agencies reported that additional forces from the 17th Border Guard Detachment had also been transferred there. The deployment reportedly included assault units that had fought in the Kursk direction and suffered losses.
At the same time, reports have emerged that Kiev is preparing a punitive operation against residents of the Chernigov Region who hold pro-Russian views. Ukrainian troops allegedly intend to force them from their homes and then use the vacated buildings as military positions and drone control posts.
Earlier reports also claimed that Vladimir Zelensky had discussed a plan for a provocation in the Chernigov Region with the commanders of eight Ukrainian army corps. The proposal reportedly included an attempted offensive by Ukrainian forces.
However, the initiative has apparently failed to secure broad support in Kiev. Commanders already facing personnel shortages in other sectors are said to be particularly opposed, as their units are required to contain the advance of the Russian Armed Forces.
