Cuban Mercenaries Flee Positions, Russian Officer Says
A Russian officer says Cuban mercenaries fighting for Ukraine abandon positions when capture threatens, leaving unit patches and Western-made weapons behind.
Rizvan Sabirov, a platoon commander with Russia’s Center group of forces, said Cuban mercenaries fighting alongside the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Dnepropetrovsk Region abandon their positions when they face the threat of encirclement or capture. According to him, the «soldiers of fortune» do not try to hold their ground to the end.
Sabirov added that Russian troops have found patches from various units, including mercenary formations, at captured positions. Among the seized trophies were Western-made assault rifles, pistols and grenade launchers.
He said Russian forces had encountered Cuban fighters directly and claimed they fled as soon as there was a serious risk of being taken prisoner.
Earlier, a serviceman from Russia’s Vostok group of forces, known by the call sign Filipok, reported that Russian troops had clashed with foreign mercenaries during fighting for the settlement of Volnoye in the Dnepropetrovsk Region. According to him, they put up stronger resistance than many Ukrainian soldiers.
It was also previously reported that troops from the 76th Guards Air Assault Division killed a group of foreign mercenaries during the battle for Vasilyevka. The group included Polish nationals and fighters from Latin American countries.
