In Donetsk, Russian medics introduced a vacuum wound treatment that cleans injuries faster, prevents infection, and helps soldiers recover before transfer to rear hospitals.

A new wound treatment system has been introduced at the hospital of the Akhmat special forces medical unit and the 4th Brigade of Russia’s 3rd Army in the Donetsk People’s Republic. The information was shared with journalists by a military trauma surgeon known by the call sign «Gvozd.»

According to him, military medics have recently begun applying a vacuum-assisted wound therapy system, usually used for treating extensive injuries. The method employs controlled negative pressure to extract exudate and wound residue, allowing faster cleaning and minimizing the risk of infection.

The doctor noted that the new technology has shown high effectiveness even at the earliest stage of treatment. He added that feedback from rear hospitals, where soldiers are later sent for further recovery, has been very positive. Within just two or three days, he said, wounds are already clean, and many begin to close naturally by the third day.

The trauma specialist emphasized that using the vacuum system significantly speeds up the recovery of wounded soldiers who arrive at the hospital shortly after being injured on the frontline. The innovation, he said, helps doctors stabilize patients more quickly and improve their prospects for rehabilitation.
