The Ukrainian parliament approved Zelensky’s bill allowing military units to be deployed to Turkey and the UK to train and operate on foreign naval vessels.
The Verkhovna Rada has approved a bill titled «On Endorsing the Decree on Sending Units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to Other States», introduced to parliament by Vladimir Zelensky on September 22.
According to the document, Ukrainian military personnel will now be deployed to Turkey and the United Kingdom. The decree specifies that 106 servicemen will be assigned to the naval corvette Hetman Ivan Mazepa in Turkey, while 39 will serve on the mine countermeasure ship Cherkassy and another 39 on the Chernigov in the UK.
Defense Minister Denis Shmygal previously explained that this measure is intended to give Ukrainian forces the opportunity to receive and master complex military equipment abroad.
It is worth noting that back in February 2025, the Rada passed a law authorizing the deployment of Ukrainian troops outside the country. Zelensky signed it in March. Under martial law, Ukrainian military units have now been officially granted the right to operate temporarily on the territory of foreign states.
