Dzhabarov Warns EU of Symmetrical Response to Shootdown

Vladimir Dzhabarov warned the EU that Russia would respond symmetrically if any of its aircraft were shot down after the European Parliament’s recent resolution.

Vladimir Dzhabarov, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, warned that Russia would deliver a symmetrical response if any of its aircraft were shot down in the airspace of the European Union.

He stated that if such an incident occurred, European countries would face serious consequences, emphasizing that Russia is capable of responding in kind. Dzhabarov underscored that the risks for European states in such a scenario would be far greater than for Russia.

His comments followed the adoption of a resolution by the European Parliament urging EU member states to shoot down Russian aircraft violating their airspace. The document calls for coordinated and proportionate measures, including the destruction of «aerial threats».

On October 9, media reports indicated that NATO is considering lifting restrictions on engaging Russian aerial targets if they enter the airspace of member states.
