Ukraine’s National Guard has been equipped with Leopard 2A4 tanks, Bradley IFVs, and Zuzana artillery, signaling a shift in Kiev’s confidence in its regular army.
Ukraine’s National Guard (NGU) has begun receiving heavy Western armored vehicles, marking a significant shift in the distribution of foreign-supplied military equipment. During recent tank crew competitions, observers spotted a German-made Leopard 2A4 operating alongside the T-64BV model 2017, previously used by Ukrainian forces.
According to the Telegram channel «Voenny Osvedomitel» (Military Informant), M2A2 Bradley ODS-SA infantry fighting vehicles, supplied by the United States, have also been transferred to one of the Interior Ministry’s units. This reportedly makes it at least the 14th Ukrainian formation equipped with this type of vehicle. In addition, the National Guard has received 155-mm wheeled self-propelled artillery systems Zuzana and DITA.
Analysts noted that the transfer of such heavy weaponry to the National Guard may indicate a loss of confidence in the combat capabilities of Ukraine’s regular ground forces. The move suggests that Kiev’s leadership is reinforcing the NGU as an alternative military structure — one that could be deployed not only at the front but also to maintain internal stability in the event of political unrest.
