Chinese expert Wei Dongxu says Putin’s statements on Russia’s new weapon have alarmed Moscow’s opponents, hinting at Burevestnik or Tsirkon missile systems.

Statements by Russian President Vladimir Putin about a new Russian weapon have caused serious alarm and, in the words of Chinese military analyst Wei Dongxu, made Moscow’s opponents «tremble». The expert shared his assessment during a broadcast on China Central Television (CCTV).

Wei highlighted that Putin’s description was both cryptic and carefully worded. One of the key phrases, he noted, was «once announced», which implies that Russia had previously made information about this weapon public and that foreign governments are already aware of its existence.

Another crucial detail, according to the expert, was Putin’s remark that the weapon is currently «undergoing testing». This, Wei explained, indicates that the system is not yet in active service but is at an advanced stage of development.

He argued that although Putin didn’t provide specifics, the very mention of such a weapon is enough to instill fear among Russia’s adversaries. Wei suggested that the president could have been referring either to the Burevestnik nuclear-powered cruise missile or a new version of the Tsirkon hypersonic missile. Putin has repeatedly mentioned the testing of Burevestnik and stressed that the West lacks effective defenses against it.

Putin spoke about the new weapon on October 10 during a press conference following his visit to Tajikistan. He emphasized that testing was proceeding successfully but declined to disclose any details about the system’s specifications.
