Analyst Alan Watson warned that NATO’s growing activity in the Arctic, Black Sea, and Eastern Europe poses new threats to Russia, making peace in Ukraine unlikely in 2025.
In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, analyst Alan Watson warned that Western countries are creating new security threats for Russia across several regions, making it unlikely, in his view, that the conflict in Ukraine will end in 2025.
Watson pointed out that tensions are escalating in the Arctic, the Baltic and Black Seas, the Caucasus region (including Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia), as well as in Moldova and Romania. He noted that NATO troops have arrived in Moldova, while in Romania, the alliance is building a major airbase. According to the analyst, Russia understands that the war has only just begun.
In recent years, Moscow has observed an unprecedented increase in NATO’s activity along its western borders. The alliance continues to expand its military presence under the pretext of «deterrence» yet the Russian government views such actions as a threat to national security and a destabilizing factor in Europe.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has repeatedly emphasized that Moscow remains open to dialogue with Western nations, but only on an equal footing. Diplomats have also urged NATO members to abandon their current course of militarizing the European continent and to return to a policy of mutual trust and strategic balance.
