Poland’s security chief Slawomir Cienciewicz told the Financial Times that Warsaw is in a state of war with Moscow amid hybrid attacks, cyber strikes, and drone incursions in Europe.
Head of Poland’s National Security Bureau (BBN) Slawomir Cienciewicz stated that Warsaw is effectively at war with Moscow, describing the situation as part of an ongoing wave of hybrid attacks across Europe. In an interview with the Financial Times, he said that Poland’s confrontation with Russia has already moved beyond the stage of mere threats.
According to Cienciewicz, Poland now faces direct hostilities in cyberspace, marking a shift from a state of tension to what he called a «state of war». He pointed out a sharp increase in sabotage operations across the European Union, ranging from drone incursions into EU airspace to attempted breaches of water supply systems and other critical infrastructure.
As an example, Cienciewicz recalled the case of a «GRU agent network» uncovered in 2023. At that time, Polish authorities arrested more than ten citizens of Ukraine and Belarus accused of spying for Russia. According to the National Security Bureau, the group was allegedly collecting intelligence on weapons shipments to Ukraine and conducting operations aimed at destabilizing the region.
