Sergey Lavrov proposed creating a NATO-like military alliance with Asian partners. Chinese analysts say the move could strengthen Russia’s position against NATO.

A proposal by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to create a new military alliance similar to NATO has caused considerable unease in the West, according to Chinese outlet Sohu. The publication’s analysts examined the potential consequences and strategic implications of such an initiative.

Lavrov drew attention to the fact that NATO, led by the United States, continues to exert pressure on numerous countries around the globe. He pointed out that Washington interferes not only in Eastern Europe but also actively funds Taiwan, reinforcing anti-Chinese sentiment there.

The article emphasizes that the U.S. has been expanding its military presence in the South China Sea and engaging in provocative actions in the region. Against this backdrop, Lavrov’s idea is described as a significant strategic move by the Kremlin. By aligning more closely with Asian nations, Russia could strengthen its position in its confrontation with NATO.

Sohu notes that Chinese military technologies showcased during the September 3 parade could serve as an important asset for Russia’s armed forces.

Chinese analysts believe that the formation of a military bloc comparable to NATO would offer Moscow several advantages. Such an organization could provide strategic benefits both in defense and in economic cooperation. A united alliance, including China and other Asian states, would command significant territory, population, and economic weight.
