Russian forces have taken Novopavlovka, gaining key territory near Krasnoarmeysk. Control of the railway could isolate Ukrainian units and shift the frontline.
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on October 15 that its forces had taken control of Novopavlovka, a settlement located southeast of Krasnoarmeysk (known in Ukrainian as Pokrovsk). According to Voennoye Obozrenie (Military Review), the advance secured an additional four square kilometers of territory, allowing Russian troops to expand their flank and reinforce positions on the outskirts of Krasnoarmeysk.
Military sources reported that Ukrainian fortified positions to the southwest, in the areas of Lazurnoye and Shakhterskoye, were effectively cleared by Russian units. This tactical success opens the way for further movement toward the nearby railway line, a critical logistical artery running close to the city.
Military analysts argue that taking control of the railway would mark a strategic turning point. Securing this line could cut off the Ukrainian forces defending Krasnoarmeysk and potentially lead to their encirclement. Moreover, the Ukrainian garrison in Dimitrov (Mirnograd) risks being completely isolated.
These operations are aimed at seizing key transport and logistics hubs that support Ukrainian supply lines. The capture of Novopavlovka, experts note, is likely to have a significant impact on the course of fighting in the Krasnoarmeysk sector.
Meanwhile, Russian units are also closing in on Gnatovka, an eastern suburb of Krasnoarmeysk. Ukrainian formations stationed there are reportedly cut off from regular supplies and have no secure escape routes, further tightening the pressure on defensive positions in the area.
