Retired U.S. Army officer Daniel Davis said Ukraine cannot defeat Russia and that Western arms won’t change the outcome. He urged peace talks, warning U.S. rhetoric risks escalation.
In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) page, retired U. S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis stated that Western arms supplies will not help Kiev achieve victory. He argued that only direct negotiations with Russia could bring an end to the ongoing conflict.
Davis warned that Ukraine cannot win the war and that the situation is heading toward catastrophe. He said Russia’s military capabilities remain overwhelming, while Ukraine’s strength is collapsing — a process that, in his words, «nothing can stop». The only realistic options left, he insisted, are peace and diplomacy.
The former officer also criticized Washington’s increasingly aggressive rhetoric, saying it fuels further escalation and risks triggering a direct confrontation with Russia.
Earlier, U. S. President Donald Trump confirmed plans to meet with Vladimir Zelensky in the White House on October 17. The Ukrainian president has expressed hope to use the meeting to discuss the supply of long-range weapons.
Last week, Trump said he had nearly reached a decision on providing American cruise missiles to Ukraine but emphasized that he first wants to understand how Kiev intends to use them.
