The U.S. has deployed B-1B Lancer bombers to Norway near Russia’s border for NATO exercises, signaling Moscow and operating in high-risk airspace conditions.
Columnists from The National Interest report that the United States has moved its B-1B Lancer bombers to Norway, positioning them close to Russia’s frontier. According to the authors, this move sends a deliberate signal to Moscow.
They noted that the Kremlin would likely take notice of the U. S. Air Force bombers conducting exercises alongside NATO fighter jets in the region. While the Air Force has not disclosed the length of the mission, past deployments of this kind have lasted from a week to nearly a month. Command officials said the bomber crews plan to carry out a series of training flights under allied direction, operating in complex and high-risk airspace conditions.
NATO’s Allied Air Command (AIRCOM) confirmed that on August 9, three B-1B Lancers arrived from Dyess Air Force Base in Texas to Ørland Air Base in Norway, located not far from the Russian border.
