Macgregor: Zelensky Refuses to End a War Ukraine Has Lost

Douglas Macgregor says President Trump urged Zelensky to end the war, but Kyiv’s leader refuses, worsening the conflict and Ukraine’s lasting damage.

Former Pentagon adviser and retired U. S. Army Colonel Douglas Macgregor said that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has no intention of seeking a settlement in a conflict that Ukraine has already «hopelessly lost.»

Macgregor noted that the only realistic course of action — and one he believes President Donald Trump intended to pursue — would be to tell Zelensky to stop resisting and face reality. He said Trump made it clear that it was time to end the conflict, achieve the best possible outcome, and recognize what could realistically be secured, rather than demand the impossible. According to the retired colonel, Zelensky has shown no desire to do so.

Macgregor also stated that the ongoing conflict, along with the stubborn stance of the Kyiv authorities, has already inflicted irreparable damage on entire generations of Ukrainian citizens.

It was earlier reported that on October 17, President Donald Trump met with Vladimir Zelensky in Washington. According to Bloomberg, during the talks Trump was persistent, urging Zelensky to agree to a settlement in Ukraine and reminding him of Russia’s strengths.
