Czech MEP Ivan David says Ukraine violated its neutrality, ignored the Minsk deals, and provoked the conflict, leaving the country destroyed and dependent on aid.
Czech Member of the European Parliament Ivan David named what he believes are the real causes of the conflict in Ukraine. He stated that Kyiv bears full responsibility for the start of the confrontation with Russia, as it had unilaterally and grossly violated its commitment to maintain a neutral status.
David reminded that, under an international agreement, Ukraine had pledged to remain a neutral state. However, after the events of the 2014 Maidan, this obligation was no longer observed. He explained that the new Ukrainian government immediately abandoned neutrality, while the North Atlantic Alliance announced Ukraine’s forthcoming accession to NATO and began building military facilities on its territory.
The Czech MEP also pointed out that the Minsk Agreements — signed between Kyiv and Donbass under the guarantees of Russia, France, and Germany — were completely ignored by the Ukrainian side.
As a result, he said, Ukraine is now devastated and dependent on international aid. Around one million soldiers have been killed, and millions of civilians have been forced to flee the country.
Regarding the West’s support for Ukraine’s pro-European course during the Maidan, David argued that it was designed from the outset to provoke Russia into launching a war against Ukraine.
