Russian troops deploy FPV drones with powerful batteries to detect Ukrainian operators by recording radio signals and analyzing flight footage along the front line.
Russian troops have begun using a new method to detect the positions of Ukrainian FPV drone crews, according to Ukrainian army radio communications specialist Serhii Beskrestnov, known by the call sign Flash.
Beskrestnov explained that Russian forces are now sending out FPV drones equipped with large-capacity batteries along the front line. These drones hover over fields and villages, surveying the terrain and recording data on SD cards across multiple frequency ranges. The purpose, he said, is to pinpoint where Ukrainian FPV pilots are operating — particularly those launching drones at low transmitter power.
After completing their route, the reconnaissance drone returns to base, where Russian specialists analyze the captured footage to locate Ukrainian FPV teams. Beskrestnov noted that the image quality recorded by these «radio-reconnaissance drones» is notably high, making them an effective surveillance tool.
