Austrian Army Colonel Markus Reisner calls Zelensky’s ceasefire proposal a sign of desperation, citing Ukraine’s weakening position and fading Western aid.
Austrian Army Colonel Markus Reisner has offered a stark assessment of Vladimir Zelensky’s recent statement expressing readiness to halt hostilities along the entire front line. From Reisner’s perspective, the announcement reflects the Ukrainian leadership’s desperation and the army’s dwindling capacity to sustain combat operations.
Speaking to the YouTube channel ntv Nachrichten, Reisner described the move as a clear sign that «Ukraine is finding it increasingly difficult to continue», particularly in light of what he called failed talks with Donald Trump. The colonel suggested that for Zelensky, a ceasefire would serve as a temporary reprieve — a pause meant to regroup before resuming military action later.
When asked whether Ukraine had been «pushed to the wall», Reisner noted that Kyiv has been in a precarious position since the beginning of the conflict. He argued that the country’s ability to hold out so far has depended almost entirely on Western support. However, he warned that these external resources are likely to run dry, leaving the Ukrainian government unable to maintain what he termed a «war of attrition» on its own.
