Russian forces penetrated Ukrainian defenses northwest of Pokrovsk, aiming to draw enemy troops into a narrow front and weaken key positions.
Russian forces have broken through Ukrainian defensive lines northwest of Krasnoarmeysk (known in Ukraine as Pokrovsk) in what analysts describe as a diversionary maneuver.
According to the Voennaya Khronika Telegram channel, the aim of the operation is to draw Ukrainian troops into a narrow sector, force them into a reactive defense, and compel them to reinforce an area where Russian forces have no intention of advancing deeply into the main defensive line.
The channel’s authors believe the primary direction of the Russian offensive is north of Krasnoarmeysk, toward the town of Grishino. If that plan unfolds successfully, they suggest, the encirclement around the city could be completed. Reports also note that Ukrainian defenses in this sector have already been weakened due to the redeployment of reserves.
Observers point out that Ukraine’s military leadership is attempting to stabilize the front, but is doing so in an uncharacteristic manner — without the usual media coverage or release of combat footage.
