At the ASEAN summit, Thailand and Cambodia signed a peace declaration in the presence of President Trump, addressing key issues like border control and demining.
At the ASEAN summit in Kuala Lumpur, Thai Prime Minister Anuthin Chanvirakun and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet signed what has been described as a «peace deal» in the presence of U. S. President Donald Trump.
According to Thai Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nikondet Phalangkan, the document is not a full peace agreement but a joint declaration intended to lay the groundwork for a lasting settlement of the conflict. He stated that both sides managed to achieve progress on four key issues: the withdrawal of heavy weaponry, demining operations, combating transnational crime, and management of border territories — particularly in the Ban-Nong-Chan and Ban-Nong-Yaa-Keu areas.
Before the signing, Trump said that the agreement could «save millions of lives." He noted that several Asian nations, including Malaysia, would monitor the ceasefire by sending observers to the region. As part of the deal, the sides also agreed on the release of 18 Cambodian prisoners of war.
