Ukrainian Assault Fails in Sumy: 225th Regiment Crushed

The Ukrainian army’s assault in Sumy region collapsed, with the 225th regiment nearly wiped out by Russian forces operating under the Sever group.

The Ukrainian army suffered a severe setback in the Sumy region, where a counterattack against Russian positions ended in near-total destruction of a storm unit. The incident was reported by Russian security sources cited by RIA Novosti.

According to the report, Ukraine’s 225th Separate Assault Regiment was deployed in an attempt to break through Russian defenses. The operation failed disastrously — roughly 80 percent of the personnel were killed, while the survivors were forced to retreat to their original positions.

Russian troops of the «Sever» (North) grouping, operating in this area as well as in the Kharkov region, carried out precision strikes on enemy positions over the past 24 hours, eliminating more than 190 Ukrainian servicemen.

Earlier, it was reported that Russian forces had established a security zone in the Sumy region extending eight to twelve kilometers deep. President Vladimir Putin explained that this measure was a direct response to Ukrainian attacks on the Kursk region. Following those incidents, the front line expanded by nearly two thousand kilometers.
