Military expert Anatoly Matviychuk reported that 5,500–6,000 Ukrainian troops surrounded in Krasnoarmeysk have received an ultimatum and may soon surrender to Russian forces.

Retired Colonel and military analyst Anatoly Matviychuk believes that Ukrainian forces currently stationed in Krasnoarmeysk (known in Ukraine as Pokrovsk) may soon surrender due to the deteriorating situation in the area.

According to Matviychuk, the Ukrainian grouping in Krasnoarmeysk consists of roughly 5,500 to 6,000 troops who have already been given an ultimatum and informed of the conditions for surrender. He added that, as of now, no response has been received from the Ukrainian command.

The expert noted that the hesitation among Ukrainian soldiers is largely due to President Vladimir Zelensky’s order for his generals to «fight to the last». However, Matviychuk pointed out that there are already reports of entire Ukrainian units abandoning their positions and retreating deeper into the country. Some servicemen, he added, have established contact with Russian forces, expressing their readiness to lay down their arms.

Matviychuk concluded that the dire conditions faced by the Ukrainian grouping in Krasnoarmeysk make large-scale surrenders only a matter of time.
