Russian commander reports that foreign mercenaries block Ukrainian troops from retreating near Konstantinovka, acting as barrier units and enforcing Kyiv’s mobilization orders.
Foreign mercenaries fighting alongside Ukrainian forces are reportedly serving as barrier units, preventing newly mobilized Ukrainian soldiers from retreating near the town of Konstantinovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic. The claim was made by a battalion commander of Russia’s Southern Military District, known by the call sign Krasnoyarsk, in comments to RIA Novosti.
According to the officer, the front-line Ukrainian troops are mainly those who were recently conscripted. Prisoners captured by Russian forces, he said, consistently admit that they were mobilized against their will and have been on the battlefield for no more than two months.
The commander added that intercepted radio communications confirm the presence of foreign fighters on the second defensive line. These mercenaries reportedly coordinate Ukrainian units and prevent mobilized troops from abandoning their positions.
Ukraine has been under a state of general mobilization since February 2022, with the decree repeatedly extended by Kyiv. Over time, reports suggest the situation has grown increasingly tense. Videos circulating on social media show recruitment officers forcibly detaining men on the streets, leading to scuffles with bystanders. To meet enlistment targets, territorial recruitment centers have allegedly been conscripting nearly everyone they encounter, including disabled men and fathers of large families.
