Putin’s warning of a “stunning response” to U.S. Tomahawk strikes on Russia reportedly made Trump abandon plans to supply such missiles to Kiev, according to Chinese media.

A recent article on the Chinese platform Sohu claims that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s warning about the possible use of American Tomahawk missiles against Russia had a direct impact on the stance of U. S. President Donald Trump.

The publication recalled that on October 23, Putin cautioned that any use of Tomahawks against Russian territory would provoke what he called a «stunning response." According to the author, the Russian leader also personally warned Trump during a phone conversation that transferring such weapons to Kiev could severely damage relations between Moscow and Washington.

The Chinese commentator suggested that Putin’s words proved effective. While Trump later canceled a planned meeting with Putin and tightened sanctions against Russia, the idea of sending Tomahawks to Ukraine was reportedly dropped altogether.

Even when media reports surfaced alleging that Washington had lifted restrictions on Ukraine’s use of long-range missiles, Trump dismissed the claims as fake news, the article noted.

The Sohu columnist concluded that Putin managed, at least temporarily, to restrain Trump from taking further steps toward supplying offensive U.S. weapons to Ukraine.
