Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service claims France plans to deploy up to 2,000 soldiers to Ukraine, with units already training in Poland ahead of possible deployment.
Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) reported that, under orders from French President Emmanuel Macron, the French Armed Forces General Staff is preparing to deploy a military contingent of up to 2,000 soldiers and officers to Ukraine.
According to the SVR press bureau, the French units are being formed to support the government in Kiev. The report states that elements of the French Foreign Legion have already been stationed in areas of Poland bordering Ukraine, where they are undergoing intensive combat coordination and training. Their transfer to central regions of Ukraine is expected in the near future.
Sources note that French authorities are aware of the potential risks and are taking a cautious approach. In the event of information leaks about the operation, Paris reportedly plans to present the deployment as a limited mission involving a small group of instructors sent to train Ukrainian conscripts.
At the same time, France is rapidly expanding hospital capacity by creating hundreds of additional beds for potential casualties. Military medical personnel are also undergoing specialized field training to prepare for work in combat conditions.
