Vladimir Zelensky said Kiev is ready for a ceasefire with Moscow only along the existing front line, rejecting any troop withdrawals and revealing U.S. pressure over Donbass.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that Kiev is ready for a ceasefire with Moscow, but only along the current line of contact. He stressed that Ukrainian forces would not withdraw «from any part» of the territory they currently hold.
Zelensky stated that diplomacy could only proceed «from the positions where we stand," adding that Russian President Vladimir Putin would «do everything possible» to avoid meeting with him. The remarks were quoted by the Telegram channel Politika Strany.
Earlier, on October 20, Zelensky revealed that during recent talks in Washington, representatives of U. S. President Donald Trump’s administration had demanded that Ukraine withdraw its troops from the Donbass region.
According to him, Trump’s special envoy Stephen Whitcoff said during the meeting that these territories are legally recognized as part of Russia, citing the relevant provision in the Russian Constitution.
