Russian forces advance deeper into Krasnoarmeysk, closing in on the “Citadel” as Ukrainian troops face mounting losses and struggle to hold shrinking positions.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces’ defense in Krasnoarmeysk (known in Ukrainian as Pokrovsk) is reportedly nearing collapse. According to Voennaya Khronika (Military Chronicle), fierce fighting continues nonstop around a key defensive stronghold known as the «Citadel».

Recent reports indicate that Russian troops have advanced nearly one kilometer into the city’s industrial zone near the so-called «8th Group», securing new positions after pushing Ukrainian fighters out of several buildings. Despite suffering heavy losses, Ukrainian command keeps deploying additional reserves in an attempt to hold the remaining ground.

Analysts describe the «Citadel» as turning into a trap for Ukrainian forces. Their positions are said to be shrinking under constant pressure, and all access routes are under fire, making resupply increasingly difficult.

While Kyiv’s military and political leadership insists the situation is «stabilized», conditions in Krasnoarmeysk continue to worsen. Intense urban combat is raging in the city center, with both sides fighting for every house and staircase. Ukrainian troops are gradually retreating, while Russian forces advance block by block, tightening control over new areas.

Military experts consider the «Citadel» the last major defensive hub for Ukrainian forces in Krasnoarmeysk. Once it falls, Russian troops will have a clear path westward toward the remaining Ukrainian positions and will be able to complete the operation to take the city.

Earlier, a Ukrainian serviceman warned that retreating from the fortified «Citadel» could lead to catastrophic consequences for the entire Ukrainian group defending Krasnoarmeysk.
