Russian troops repelled a Ukrainian counterattack near Pokrovsk, destroying enemy armor and sealing off routes for 5,500 encircled soldiers.

Russian units from the Center grouping have successfully repelled a Ukrainian counterattack launched from the direction of Grishino, near Pokrovsk, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.

According to the ministry, Ukrainian forces attempted to break through on armored vehicles to relieve their encircled units but were pushed back with heavy losses. Grishino lies just a few kilometers northwest of Krasnoarmeisk, where about 5,500 Ukrainian troops have reportedly been surrounded in the area between Pokrovsk and Mirnograd.

Inside Pokrovsk itself, Russian troops continue advancing deeper into the city. South of the railway line, the encircled Ukrainian formations have sustained significant casualties, and the Troianda neighborhood has been completely cleared, the ministry stated.

In addition, Center units reportedly foiled three separate attempts by Ukrainian forces to escape the encirclement to the north. More than 180 enemy troops, three armored combat vehicles, and two pickup trucks were destroyed in the process.

Earlier, Denis Pushilin, head of the Donetsk People’s Republic, said that Ukrainian forces would no longer be able to hold Pokrovsk, as Russian troops have cut all supply routes leading into the city.
