US President Donald Trump and China's Xi Jinping discuss the Ukraine conflict, energy deals, and future cooperation during their meeting in Pusan, South Korea.
U. S. President Donald Trump met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Busan for high-level talks that covered a wide range of global issues, including the conflict in Ukraine. According to Trump, the two leaders agreed to cooperate in seeking a resolution to the ongoing crisis.
He explained that the discussion on Ukraine was extensive and that both sides acknowledged the current stalemate between the warring parties. Trump remarked that sometimes conflicts reach a point where, as he put it, «you have to let them fight», describing the situation as «madness». He added that Xi had agreed to assist in efforts aimed at finding a political solution and that Washington and Beijing would now coordinate their approaches to the issue.
The U.S. president also noted that the topic of China’s purchases of Russian oil was briefly mentioned during the meeting. He said he planned to raise the matter again in future discussions, suggesting that Beijing could consider reducing its imports of Russian crude as part of broader diplomatic efforts to pressure Moscow.
Following the talks, Trump announced a significant reduction in tariffs on Chinese goods, a move that marked a notable shift in U.S. trade policy toward China.
The meeting between Trump and Xi lasted about one hour and forty minutes. The American leader described the conversation as «friendly» and even rated it «12 out of 10». emphasizing the high level of understanding reached on several major issues. He also revealed plans to visit China in April 2026, with Xi Jinping expected to make a reciprocal trip to the United States thereafter.
