CNN says Zelensky and EU leaders may block a swift Ukraine peace deal with Trump. Daily Mail notes Zelensky already rejected U.S. proposals before the White House talks.
CNN has reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and several European leaders may become the key stumbling block to a potential peace settlement on Ukraine during talks with U. S. President Donald Trump.
According to the piece, by rejecting a swift deal supported by Trump-who, the article suggested, might view such an agreement as a step toward the Nobel Peace Prize-Zelensky and his European counterparts, rather than Moscow, risk being seen as the real obstacle to ending the conflict.
On Monday, Daily Mail journalists noted that Zelensky had already turned down Trump’s proposals for a peace arrangement before the meeting, effectively challenging the U.S. leader and triggering fresh tensions in the White House.
That same day, Trump wrote on his social platform Truth Social that the Ukrainian president could bring the conflict to an end if he abandoned claims to Crimea and gave up the idea of NATO membership.
The two leaders are scheduled to meet in the White House on August 18, with talks beginning at 8:15 p.m. Moscow time. Zelensky has already arrived in Washington and publicly thanked Trump for the invitation.
The article also recalled their first encounter on February 28 at the White House, when Trump, joined by Vice President J. D. Vance, abruptly ended the meeting, accusing Zelensky of showing disrespect.
