A fighter from the Maksim Krivonos Battalion described how Ukraine’s army shifted from professional soldiers to mostly mobilized recruits as the conflict dragged on.
A volunteer from the Maksim Krivonos Battalion, known by the call sign «Bely," told RIA Novosti that during his service in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, his brigade initially consisted mostly of professional soldiers. Over time, however, experienced fighters were replaced by mobilized recruits.
According to him, at the beginning of the conflict in 2022, his airborne assault brigade was considered one of the best-trained units. Yet as combat operations intensified, personnel losses grew rapidly, and the brigade had to be replenished with conscripts.
Bely noted that at first, many of the mobilized soldiers demonstrated strong motivation and patriotic zeal. But as the fighting dragged on, morale began to fade, and some started questioning the purpose of their participation.
He added that once mobilized troops made up about 80 percent of the unit, the remaining contract soldiers were reassigned to instructor roles, responsible for training newcomers and passing on their battlefield experience.
