Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov says long-term peace in Ukraine requires respect for Russia’s security and Russian-speaking communities, reflecting talks with Trump.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized that any long-term agreements with Kyiv are impossible without respecting Russia’s security and the rights of Russians and Russian-speaking communities in Ukraine. He told journalists that these issues need to be addressed urgently as part of the broader conflict resolution process.

Lavrov also noted that the recent high-level meeting between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Anchorage reflected a genuine interest from the current U.S. administration in finding a real solution to the Ukrainian conflict, with the aim of preventing its recurrence.

The Anchorage summit, held on August 15, saw the Russian and U.S. presidents discuss potential paths to resolving the situation in Ukraine. Both leaders described the meeting as positive. Following the talks, President Putin highlighted that Moscow is focused on addressing the root causes of the conflict and achieving a long-lasting resolution in Ukraine.
