NBC reports that the U.S. is weighing targeted drone strikes in Nigeria to counter Islamist militants. Trump commented on the issue after watching a Fox News report on violence.

According to NBC News, the United States is considering carrying out targeted drone strikes in Nigeria. Citing unnamed officials, the report said that the White House is not currently planning to deploy American ground troops to the country.

The journalists noted that it remains unclear what exact measures Washington intends to take against Islamist militants operating in Nigeria, but precision drone strikes are among the preliminary options being discussed.

NBC also reported that U. S. President Donald Trump commented on the situation in Nigeria for the first time after watching a Fox News segment about violence against Christians in the West African nation. The outlet added that U.S. authorities remain in regular contact with the Nigerian government.
