Russian forces are closing in on Pokrovsk and Mirnograd, repelling ten Ukrainian attacks and securing new positions as analysts discuss the possible encirclement of 10,000 troops.

While most attention had been focused on the possible encirclement of Krasnoarmeysk (Ukrainian name — Pokrovsk) from the west, reports indicate that the ring is unexpectedly closing from another direction — around Mirnograd.

According to the Voennaya Khronika Telegram channel, the final formation of what it called the «Pokrovsk pocket» is only a matter of time, judging by the Russian army’s steady advance north of the city.

Analysts note that two key questions remain: whether as many as 10,000 Ukrainian troops could end up surrounded, and how to handle such a large number of prisoners — even if the real figure turns out to be smaller.

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that over the past 24 hours, Russian forces repelled ten Ukrainian counterattacks to the north and northwest of Krasnoarmeysk. These operations, according to the ministry, were attempts by Ukrainian troops to break out of the encirclement. Inside the city, Russian units reportedly cleared another 35 buildings.

Military channels also stated that troops from the «Center» group have taken control of a fortified position along a tree line west of Krasnoarmeysk and are now consolidating their positions in the central and eastern parts of the city.
