Belarusian official Alexander Neverovsky says Russian weapons, including the Oreshnik system, are a defensive measure amid rising militarization by neighboring states.
According to Alexander Neverovsky, Deputy State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus, the deployment of Russian weaponry — including the Oreshnik missile system — on Belarusian territory serves as a deterrent amid growing escalation and militarization in neighboring countries.
Neverovsky noted that several of Belarus’s neighbors continue to pursue policies of military buildup and confrontation, investing vast sums in weapons procurement under the pretext of a supposed threat from Minsk — sometimes, he said, even at the expense of their own citizens’ well-being.
He stressed that military cooperation with Moscow should not be interpreted as preparation for offensive operations or aggressive intentions toward neighboring states. According to Neverovsky, the initiative is aimed solely at building a reliable defensive shield capable of preventing potential threats.
The official underlined that Belarus’s primary objective remains unchanged — to preserve peace and stability on its own soil.
